2009 - The Centennial Year.
Applications are being accepted for three artist-in-residence positions at The Newark Museum Arts Workshop for the month of January 2009. The residency offers three artists the opportunity to use the Museum s professional facilities for creating new work. A stipend will be paid to selected artists.
The Newark Museum Arts Workshop consists of three studios: one for weaving, fiber, textiles, and related areas of study; one for fine metals and enameling; and one that is open for a variety of disciplines. Artists will have available to them the resources of the Museum including the major collections, special exhibitions, The Educational Loan Collection (a repository of approximately 15,000 objects for study or visual reference) and Library.

Artists asked to propose projects that celebrate this special year
Eligibility:
Artists in the areas of fiber and textiles, clay, fine metals, jewelry and metalsmithing, enameling, sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking, works on paper, video and new media (digital applications) may apply. In addition to having a professional exhibition record, artists must have some teaching experience either with adults or children.
Note: One space to be reserved for an artist who works in a traditional craft area such as pottery, weaving, enameling etc. Special consideration to be given Newark-area artists. Special for this year is the fact that we are celebrating our 100th anniversary and special consideration will be given to proposals that in some way reflect this milestone.
How to Apply, Read Carefully:
First, there is no application form to fill out or references to seek.
Send 10 JPEG images at 300 dpi on a CD, or a video/film clip of five minutes or less of your current work along with, resume, artist statement, some notices of professional activity such as show cards or write-ups in the newspaper, and SASE. Do please include a hardcopy list of your images and information about them and how or in what manner they should be viewed.
Stipend:
Each artist receives a stipend of $1200.00. This includes artist acting as juror to select the next round of Newark Museum Resident Artists for 2010. In addition, in-kind material and technical support is supplied to each artist depending on project needs.
